6 Tips to Write the Perfect Blog Article for SEO (That People Actually Want to Read)

A well experienced blogger writing a blog explaining tips to write the content on the blog

In today’s modern digital world… blah, blah, blah!!

Seriously, who am I kidding?

I know the first thing that comes to mind when you see text like “In today’s modern world” or “In the realm of” clearly tells you that this is AI-written content. And you are right!!

Who in the world ever talks like that 🤔

Neil Patel, the stalwart in the digital marketing industry, did a study with his team where they worked on 68 websites and wrote 744 articles.

From that study, they found that human-written content far outranks AI-written content by 5X.

Here is his full article on the study: https://neilpatel.com/blog/ai-vs-human-content/

P.S.: You do not need to read the full article. Just see the infographic images and you will understand.

Having said that, I get it — we are not all writers, and most of us struggle with brain fog when it comes to writing anything.

So here are my 6 tips (and a bonus tip) on how to write a blog article (AI-assisted) and then format it in a way that your users can easily read and understand it, making it valuable to them, which eventually helps Google rank you higher on Search Engines (SEO).

Key Points

1. Just Start With a Draft — Long or Short, It Doesn’t Matter

Here is the biggest mistake that people make when writing a blog article.

They go to ChatGPT or any other AI tool, and give it a prompt like “Can you write an article for me on the topic XYZ?”

Well, guess what, AI is just gonna scrape through the existing content out there and write an article for you in the most generic way possible, making your content absolutely mediocre and unhelpful.

So, how do we not do that?

The answer is simple — share your expertise first with AI.
Instead of directly asking the AI to write the article, use it to plan for the article.

Write a very brief draft to give to AI so that it knows what you are looking to talk about in the article.

Don’t overthink it. Just get your thoughts out.

Here is how I did it for this article.

Based on this, the AI gave me some good points that I can cover under each sub-topic.

If you feel something is not right, prompt the AI by saying it is incorrect and also give it the right answer. It will then refine and give you the updated draft.

2. Tone of Voice

ABC company has been serving Vancouver for the last 20 years” Vs. “We at ABC Company have been proudly serving our home city of Vancouver for the last 20 years”.

Which one of the above do you think resonates more with you?
My guess is the 2nd one 🤔

When you make your tone of voice as First Person (Singular or Plural), it starts to feel like you are talking with your audience even without being present at that time.

Also, consistency and personality matter.

Use your personality to write your content.

For example, I am a casual person and kinda use sarcasm at times for humour 🤓
So when I am writing an article, I tend to use it in my writing style.

And if you know me, you will immediately connect with my article, and even if you don’t know me, the next time you meet me, you will know me a bit beforehand 🙂

And yes, how can we forget consistency!

All the articles you write should have a consistent tone of voice. You should not have a few articles which are super professional and some that are extremely casual.

🎯 AI Tip

When you only use AI to write the article, try to train it a bit with some past content that you have written. It will learn a bit more about how you would like it to help you write.

P.S. [Spoiler Alert]: AI will still make mistakes. It will say that it gets your tone of voice, but it will still hallucinate and then write the content in the way it wants to.

So the trick is to humanly edit it after you get the draft and convert it into your voice.

💡 Insider Secret

Write like you talk. It makes the post easier to read and builds trust with your audience. Writing the article will be a breeze.

3. Short Paragraphs. Simple Sentences. Easy Formatting.

Tell me — which one of the above 2 images do you prefer reading?
Let me guess — #2 by a mile.

The unfortunate truth about today’s world is that the attention span of people has reduced drastically. With AI, creating content has become easier, but no one is ever interested in reading it 🤔

People do not read huge paragraphs; they skim the content first, and while skimming, if something catches their eye, then they read it in detail.

How do we do that?
The answer is simple.

  • Short Paragraphs – max 2-3 sentences per paragraph
  • More line height/spacing
  • Large enough fonts – so that it is easy to read even on a mobile device
  • Highlight / Bold text that you want the reader to definitely read
  • Headings & Sub-headings for defining a user flow

You can look at any of my blog articles on my website, and you will see that I use everything in the above list that I mentioned 🤓

4. Add Images, Screenshots and even Videos

A picture isn’t just worth a thousand words — it’s worth a longer time on page, which is great for SEO.

Using images helps break the monotony of text content, but more importantly, it helps to explain something better (of course, it is visual) and also helps depict your experience/expertise.

But there is a very fine line. Do not force the use of media (image/video).

Only incorporate it when you think it will be helpful, and avoid using stock photos all the time.
Instead, use charts, graphs or even screenshots.

The issue with stock photos is that they have been used by multiple websites across the internet, and hence, they do not give us any advantage in SEO.

But if you use something that was clicked by you (even from a smartphone), that is great to use and will benefit us in Image SEO.

People do not like perfect shots!!
They want to see that you have experience, and that is all they care about to gain confidence.

💡 Insider Secret

You can see that many times I simply use screenshots across my blog articles to explain something, which helps break the monotony as well as show my experience that yes, I do that myself 🤓

So, just think out of the box and use simple things that can help explain stuff visually.

5. Use Tables, Lists, and Other Visual Aids

Text is great, but structure sells.

As I mentioned earlier in this article — people do not read content; they skim.

And what better way to use to emphasize content and make it skimmable than:

  • Tables
  • Lists
  • Tip Boxes
  • Quotes

I am sure the above list caught your attention even if you were skimming this article first 🤓

If it did, I made my point!

Tables, Lists and other visual aids help users:

  1. Find what they’re looking for
  2. Stay on your page longer
  3. Actually enjoy reading your content

Yes, I know, I overdid it with the above list, but you got the point — do it, but don’t overdo it.

🎯 Tip

If you’re comparing things, use a table.
If you’re giving tips or steps, use a list or tip box.
If you’re explaining a process, maybe even try a numbered flow.

6. Examples, Stories, or Real-Life Experience

SEO content without context is just… content.

More than that, Google or any other AI engine does not understand whether the content is helpful. They rely on user interaction to find out if the content is useful or not.

Let me explain this a bit more.

If I go to a certain web page and, after a minute of being there, I hit the back button and go to the competitor web page, this signals to Google that the page was not helpful to the user.

But if on the 2nd page I spend only 10 seconds and end up filling the contact form and end my search there, it signals to Google that this page was very helpful to me, and the content of this page is better.

So the 2nd page will see a boost in its rankings more than the 1st page.

Google/AI does not understand the content, but it picks up on topics and words (known as entities in the SEO world) to learn more about the page.

When you add your personal experiences, examples or client stories, that content attracts the users and keeps them on the page to answer their queries, which makes them more likely to contact you or end their search on your website.

And you know it very well now — if they do, then that is a boost for our SEO rankings!!

Bonus: Add an “About the Author” Box

If you’re serious about SEO, author credibility matters more than ever.

Google’s helpful content guidelines prioritize experience, expertise, authority, and trustworthiness (EEAT).

Even having a short author bio with a real name, face, and credentials helps build authority and trust, plus readers know more about the person who wrote that article (even if you did not do it completely 🤫)

🎯 Tip

Just take my About the Author section content from below and use the following prompt on ChatGPT to create your own.

“You are an expert at content writing. I want to create content for my About the Author section on my website. Here is some reference content which I like, which I want you to create content for me based on.
[Copied Content]
Here are some draft points about me: [Your Draft Content]”

Make sure you humanly edit it and add your personality to it 🤓

Final Thoughts

Well, writing for SEO is no longer about stuffing keywords and hoping for the best.

It’s about creating content that’s helpful, human, and easy to read — for both your audience and Google/AI.

So next time you sit down to write a blog post, don’t aim for perfection.
Aim for clarity, value, and structure — and humanize & optimize it as you go.

You’ll be surprised how far that takes you, and just like that, you would have written a very high-quality and highly valuable article.

FYI — I started writing this article at 6.20 am and finished writing it at 7.51 am. Overall, about 1 hr 31 mins. Worth it if you stuck around for so long and read the entire article 🙂🙏
